Lived experience is the greatest form of expertise.

Here are the Growing Democracy Project, we value collaboration and co-creation. We look to collaborate with those who engage with communities by tapping their lived experiences and the experiences of those around them.

Since March 2019, our events have taken on topics like the role of the media, storytelling tactics, information accessibility, civic capacity, engaging in difficult dialogues and cultivating civic leadership. Our speakers have personal and professional experience in areas related to local journalism, writing and publishing, public administration and civic engagement.

But, ultimately, it is the participants who we learn from the most. Every event is oriented towards collaboration and engagement, whether it is a workshop, panel discussion, or single speaker.

Current Collaborative Partnerships

We are proud to partner with local community organizations and networks to collaborate on programming and research. We currently have two collaborative programs:

  1. Race & Democracy in Northeast Ohio: a collaboration with KSU’s School of Peace and Conflict Studies and Center for Pan-African Culture, with funding support from Mark Lewine  and John Gray Paynther Program;
  2. Demystifying Policy: a collaboration with the Scholar Strategy Network of Northeast Ohio.
